Sound Asleep

Sound Asleep

"The easiest way for me to begin is by letting you in on some of my interests from the last couple of years. Automation, voice culture, sleep patterns and most of all the effects of living in close proximity with seemingly domestic ultra-sonic as well as electro-magnetic fields. For this showing, I have constructed two dream sequences. The first, future tales in automation, with its classical comic book style depiction, started off as a personal exercise, a bit autobiographical, never the less it was the way I viewed the world around me at that time. Since this section of the work is of a storyboard style illustration, with speech and thought clouds, I leave it up to the viewer to reconstruct the images as their own. The second sequence, still asleep, with a more hyper-realistic and anthropomorphic realization, in which the waker is trapped within the machines own de-fragmented sleep. These print works are accompanied by a site specific video wallpaper and a video sculptural work." - Navin Thomas
