The Weight of Separation

The Weight of Separation

Project 88 is pleased to present Andrew Ananda Voogel’s second solo exhibition with the gallery - The Weight of Separation, where the Taipei-based artist explores the tension between time and form through various textile and mixed-media installations. Through a series of material interventions, Voogel explores the intangible elements of physical, historical and personal separation. Traversing geographies, intertwined histories and moments of narrative, the artist attempts to weigh the notion of separation against itself. In doing so, he constructs a contemporary archive that touches upon carefully selected moments that have come to symbolize how we deal with our own ideas of division within society. The collected body of work represents a formal discussion of time, tension and fragility that imbues each piece with a certain agency. As each of them stands, hangs or slants amidst the gallery space, they are in the process of succumbing to their own weight. The exhibition will be a visual meditation on the pressure we all feel within this contemporary moment.
