Last month, at the United Art Fair at Pragati Maidan in Delhi, I came across a bit of Mumbai depicted in the same indirect, powerful way. The photographic works were that of Chirodeep Chaudhuri, whose black and white photographs as published in the book, A Village in Bengal, depicting his familial village in Amadpur in West Bengal during Durga Pujo, I had earlier seen and are as startling in the shapes and forms they capture as much as they contain a Bengal village stripped of any clichés.
