Huma Mulji

Huma Mulji, Ode to the Piano Pen, Digital and manual embroidery on cotton fabric, 15 x 19 inches each, 2020

The yellow faceted plastic barrel of the Piano pen gave her hand the confidence to speak of things she had no tongue for. The ink flowed and leaked generously, flooding the page with sticky, blood thick blotches, the pen and the tongue, in brief conversation……

Ode to the Piano Pen (Azure, Lapiz and Cobalt) explores the role of the editorial process and its aesthetic expression. The doing and undoing, writing and unwriting, labour and futility, are here both productive and critical, pointing to the process of removal as inquiry. Essentially the works are an aestheticizing of the problem, the endeavour of calibrating thought and ideas.
