Khandakar Ohida (b. 1993) is a visual artist and filmmaker working between Kolkata and New Delhi. Her practice is deeply influenced by her surroundings, thinking through personal memories, marginalised voices, and notions of collective protest and resistance in and against societal layers. Ohida’s interdisciplinary, non-linear practice traverses lens-based mediums, film installations, drawings, and contemporary interpretations of miniature paintings. She attained her BFA in Painting from Govt. College of Arts and Crafts, Calcutta (2016) and her MFA in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi (2018).
Her film Dream Your Museum was screened at the 12th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, Berlin, Germany (2022), and subsequently at the 59th International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia, as part of the public programming in the Ukraine Pavilion (2022), alongside at The Contemporary Art Museum of Luxembourg as part of a group exhibition in 2024. This film won the seventh Jameel Prize by V&A London and Art Jameel, and is currently on view in their group exhibition in the UK.
Ohida has participated in various group exhibitions in India and internationally, including at Ames Yavuz Gallery, Sydney, 2024; Bikaner House, Delhi, 2024; Serendipity Art Festival, Goa, 2019, 2023; Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi, 2019; Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, Mumbai, 2019; Museum of Goa, 2019; Alliance Francaise de Lahore, Lahore and Karachi, 2019; Students Biennale, Kochi Muziris Biennale, Kochi, 2016, amongst others. She was the recipient of the Inlaks Fine Arts Award and the Generator Cooperative Art Production Fund in 2023. Most recently, she was awarded the Jan Van Eyck Artist Residency, in the Netherlands, for their 2025 intake.
