Goethe Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai and Project 88 are pleased to invite you to Desire Machine Collective’s first solo exhibition in India. Noise Life is the new installation by DMC comprising video, sound and images. In the process of making the work schizoanalysis was employed, which privileges empirical sensation and intensity over meaning. Noise Life is a tautology of sorts – life is noise. And noise is held together by a kaleidoscopic knot of pure intensity of sensations that is blind, deaf and pointless. The work is a sensory auto-ethnography marked by ghastly alertness of the senses to a violent world outside, memories marred by insecurities, confusions and anxieties. Project 88 presents the video and sound installations and Galerie Max Mueller the photographic installation that has hundreds of photographic works. Based in Guwahati, Desire Machine Collective is Mriganka Madhukallya and Sonal Jain. DMC has presented their work in numerous group exhibitions including Being Singular Plural, Solomon Guggenheim Museum, New York (2012), Intense Proximity, 3rd edition of the La Triennale, Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2012), Everyone Agrees: It’s About to Explode, 54th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, India Pavilion, Venice (2011), Indian Highway IV, MAC Muséed’Art Contemporain de Lyon and Indian Highway V, MAXXI Museo Nazionale delle Arti del XXI Secolo, Rome (2011).
