Huge congratulations to Tejal Shah, contributor to Marco Scotini’s project Disobedience Archive at the 60th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia curated by Adriano Pedrosa.
The organizers of the Venice Biennale have revealed the names of the 331 artists who will be participating in the main exhibition of the event’s sixtieth iteration, slated to take place April 20–November 24. Titled “Stranieri Ovunque” (Foreigners Everywhere), the exhibition is being curated by Adriano Pedrosa, artistic director of Museu de Arte de São Paulo and the first curator of the event to be based in Latin America. The artist roster, which is larger than the last edition’s by roughly a third, reflects Pedrosa’s intention for the Biennale to investigate the idea of living on the margins, whether as an outsider, a new arrival, or an Indigenous person. Speaking at a January 31 press conference, Pedrosa noted that a large number of the exhibiting artists are Indigenous or from the Global South; a significant cohort identify as queer.
