Amol K Patil presents a site-specific, immersive installation, ‘Who is Invited in the City?’ for the 15th Gwangju Biennale.
In this work, comprising of bronze sculptures, video, light, and sound, Patil foregrounds the overlooked, oppressed, and invisible labour forces that often migrate - travelling through time and space - to urban cityscapes, seeking a light that is yet to arrive. Here, sound becomes crucial, as the artist notes, “sound travels through these communities for generations through vast kilometres.. the works [on display] are an amalgamation of these conversations, sounds, and looking for lights in the big city.”
