Artist Khandakar Ohida was awarded the Jameel Prize for her film Dream Your Museum (2024). The seventh edition of the Prize - presented by the Victoria & Albert Museum and Art Jameel - was centred around the moving image and digital media practices, for an artist inspired by Islamic traditions. Ohida's film is a tender depiction of her uncle, Khandakar Selim, through his expansive collection of more than 12,000 objects and memorabilia gleaned over five decades. When the family's ancestral mud house in West Bengal was tragically torn down in 2022, many objects were damaged or discarded. This prompted Ohida to reimagine the space, with its contents, digitally. Her work is a testament to Selim's care and conservation, and their combined wish for a museum that reflects diverse social and cultural identities as well as minority experiences in India.
